And We’re Off

I can’t believe the day has finally arrived.

Paris has loads of free wifi so I think there will definitely be an update or two.

It’s nearly 4am  – we must be nuts!!!

Housework By Headless Chicken

Well we’re almost off.  I finished work for the week yesterday and himself is finishing up today.  However it just seems like one of those weeks that never really started.  The plan had been to do a one chore an evening to make sure the place was ready for my mother who will be staying to mind our moggies.  However time in between work just seems to vanish and today I find myself trying to get it all done.  I know in the title it says headless chicken but I’m taking my time really and not getting too fussed.  The no problemo chores will be the bathroom and dining room – however the bedroom does look a mess so that will take some tackling.  Ah well as I’ve said before there is nothing better then a bath & clean bed covers coinciding and tonight I’m having a bath to relax.  Actually when I say tonight it will be more likely to be evening as we are heading tomorrow morning at 4.30 (ish)  so a definite early to bed.

I’d better dash as I’ve a few things to pick up down at the shops.  Roll on this time tomorrow when we are strolling around the streets of Paris.

Sunny Sunday

Well so far the weather looks fantastic outside.  However it’s Irish sun so you would be wrong to think that it’s warm outside.  However it’s not raining and the fact that it’s sunny is a bonus.

With this in mind we are going to make the most of it and have a day out planned.  It’s amazing now that we have the car it’s amazing what we can do.  Anyway I’ll stop gushing about the car.  We have a couple of errands to run this morning and then we’re off out again.  The errands involve buying a new microwave and looking at fridge freezers then off to the shops to pick up one or two things for our holidays – this time next week we’ll be in gay paree – yes I’m boasting.  After that’s done it’s in to M&S for some salads’n’stuff and then back home, put stuffs away then it’s off to Newbridge house for the afternoon.  Hopefully the weather will hold and we can spread out the blanket and have a picnic with our salads – well that’s the plan.  What really happens will be anybodies guess.  However I’ll let you know this evening.

Holiday Reading

We will be going away to Paris for 5 nights and I’m trying to get my holiday reading organised.  In my heart of hearts I know that I won’t get anything read but it’s still something that I have to bring with me.  The plan is for a magazine and two books. I have held off reading Country Living so I’ll bring that with me – the new one will be out in the shops while we’re away so that will be a nice treat for when we get back.  The books – well let me see…

One of them has to be a murder mystery so I’ve ordered: The Case Of The Late Pig by Margery Allingham and Whose Body by Dorothy L Sayers.  The Campion has arrived so I’m waiting on Wimsey – after that I’ll sit down and make a decision.   The other two books I’ve ordered are both by Mary Stewart:  The Ivy House and Nine Coaches Waiting.  Neither of these have come in yet so it might just be a case of which ever arrives in first gets to go on holidays.

As you can see I have my priorities – I’ve my books ordered well in advance and I still haven’t properly organised who will be looking after the moggies.  It is on the list though!

Crochet Greed / Specs.

I tend to dabble and generally don’t do too much – but the bit that I do I enjoy immensely.  There is one website that has a wealth of patterns – www.crochetpatterncentral.com.  However every once in a while it would send me to pattern on Lionbrand.com.  For this site you had to log on and because there are times when ‘couldn’t be bothered’ is my motto I never signed up.  Yesterday I signed up – I’ve looked through the first 11 pages of crochet patterns and I think I’ve come across about 5 patterns that I definitely want to do.  I think I may have to quit my job or manage my time a bit better ’cause I have a feeling that I’m going to be VERY busy.  To make it worse/better – now that I can drive officially I can now go off in search of wool shops – I’m going to be so broke!  I can’t wait!!

Actually I am broke – I got new glasses yesterday and boy oh boy but recession is obviously not in an opticians vocabulary!  On the other hand the frames were rather fab.  The down side is that because of my lense prescription they couldn’t do it there and then so it will be this time next week before I have a new face.  That was part of the discussion we had last night – himself only wears glasses for reading on the other hand I have them on all the time.  So while frames aren’t overly important to himself they are to me ’cause they are going to part of me.  It’s like being able to decide what eyes you have or your nose or mouth… not sure if that makes sense and when we were chatting I managed to phrase it a bit better but  I can’t remember what I said now – that’s the problem with having conversations late at night 😉

Anyway – sunny day means I shouldn’t be on the computer.  He doesn’t know it yet but we’re off to out look at stuff – it’s not that interesting -we’re going shopping.

Me & My Car

Are friends again 🙂

I PASSED MY TEST – WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m soooo happy and amazed – well not amazed but amazed. OMG! OMG! OMG!

If I was a child I’d be jumping on my bed I’ve that much pent up energy – however weight & height are against me so it might have to be a walk.

Bounce, Bounce, Bounce, Bounce, Bounce.

So where to next?

I can’t type for nuts at the moment – wayhay!

Crochet Grumble

Sorry about this but I’m about to have a grumble.  I love to crochet and haven’t managed the knitting thing really – I’m not as hooked on it so to speak (sorry!)  Anyway I’m wandering around on the internet and I tend to click in on things that mention Knitting & Crochet in the hopes of seeing something nice or learning something new and all I see is a load of knitted stuff and the only crochet on the page is in the title itself!  Harumph!

What has brought this on is a visit to a BBC website on Learning Crafts – naturally I was drawn to the Knitting and sewing section ’cause in the blurb it mentions crochet. However there is only one crochet pattern and even that was adapted from a knitting one -don’t get me wrong it’s a good cause it’s just unfortunately the one I came across this morning that sparked me off on my little rant.

If you hadn’t guessed I feeling that crocheters (?) are being not so much left out in the cold but as suffering from drag along charity – if that makes any sense.  Anyway I really should get over it ’cause if it attracts more people to the craft then it can only be a good thing – it just annoys me when I have to wade through the knitting stuff to get to the crochet- why did I suddenly get an image of archeology?

I’d best be off before I tie myself up in knots with a circular argument.

A Fête Worse Than Death

A Fête Worse Than Death by Dolores Gordon-Smith – well I’ve finished it and I have to say I really enjoyed it.  Although to be honest I couldn’t exactly say why.

When I was little I was a huge fan of Nancy Drew – I thought she was wonderful and this lead into crime fiction.  Recently I re-read a Nancy Drew book but as with most nostalgia it doesn’t deliver the same emotions 25 years later.  On the other hand reading A Fête Worse Than Death left me with the same feelings I had when I first read Nancy.  What I liked was that we were presented with almost all of the necessary detail to solve the mystery but like our hero we’re just not seeing it.

I originally wanted to get this book ’cause of the art work on the cover and I had hoped that the content would reflect that cover and it most certainly did.  I think I will have to talk nicely to himself about getting the next two 😉
