Congratulations!

To Leah Moore & John Reppion!  Leah gave birth yesterday to a baby boy.  According to his daddy Edward Alec Moore Reppion is “So far, the nicest, calmest, quietest baby ever.”

Long may it last!  😉

Seriously you guys I’m really chuffed for you both – all three of you even!  Take care and I can’t wait to see the pics.

Slippers

Did I mention I bought myself a pair of slippers recently?

Buttons!

They had a gorgeous pair last year – White with red snow flakes but they didn’t have them in my size and I didn’t want to get any of the others so I’ve been wearing a pair of shoes in the mornings however now that I have my fluffies I’m thrilled to bits 🙂 I particularly charmed by the buttons but that is another story altogether *^_^*

A Taste Of Your Life

I’ve watched this programme and I’ve often wondered what would mine be.

While the programme seems to have dishes for me it’s single things –

Fry’s Chocolate Cream and After Eights remind me of my Granddad on my fathers side and Apple Tart, a fry for your tea and most importantly Christmas Pudding remind me of Nannan (grandmother on dads side)

Bourbon biscuits remind me of my other Granddad on my mothers side and egg in a cup makes me think of Nanny (mothers mother)

What reminds me of my parents is a little more difficult.  It’s grapes for Dad.  He’d always get grapes when we went shopping and would sit chomping on them for the evening and we of course would try to help ourselves.   When it comes to Mam it gets very general.  It’s mainly baking especially boiled fruit cake.  I think it’s the licking the bowl and the putting everything together.  I also associate Christmas Pudding with Mam to but not in a good way.  I did breadcrumbs every Christmas but I always thought it was for the stuffing not realising that it would be a lot of stuffing!  I never knew that was what went into the pudding – I was devastated.  Mind you it didn’t put me off and I love it.

On a minor subcategory of Christmas Pudding.  Nannan always made it.  Granddad loved it fried & my mother told me what was in it.

Anyway time to go but just one quick question:

What would be A Taste Of Your Life?

Starting to emerge.

Well hello stranger!

I know, it’s been ages since I was here – I really am sorry.  I’ve been in a bit of a funk but in the last few days I’ve noticed that it seems to have lifted.  That means there are little traces of me to be found here and there.

So what is making me smile lately?  I saw a poster this morning on my way into work.  There is a play on in the Gate Theatre and I’m going to go.  I’m not too sure that himself wants to so I’m going to go all by myself to the Matinée on Saturday (providing there are tickets still available)  The play is The Birds – I’ve neither read the book nor seen the film – in the immortal words of Manuel “I know nawthing”  The main draw is that it has Ciarán Hinds in it.  I loved his portrayal of  Captain Wentworth in Persuasion and his Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre.  So to see him live on stage is a must in my book.  I’ve asked P. to keep an eye out for him in the shop but he’s told me he wouldn’t even recognise him if he was singing and dancing in front of him – harumph!  I don’t believe him ’cause my DVD of Persuasion is rarely put away it’s watched that often.

While looking up the website for the theatre I spotted that A Christmas Carol is also coming to the stage.  I’ve been to that particular theatre twice and both times it was to see A Christmas Carol and I’ll soon be able to say three times.  All I have to do now is decide how close to Christmas will we go? – not sure that makes sense but it does to me.

The other thing we are hoping to go and see is The Brother – starring Eamon Morrissey in Draíocht.

I’d better go as I’m supposed to be having an early night and there are still things to be done.

Apologies

I know I’m an irregular poster but I haven’t been here in a while.  I’ve been in a bit of a funk and haven’t been able to think of anything to make me smile for the last little while.

I will probably disappear again for another little while but I will be back!

Girl Guides

I’ve just watched a programme on BBC4 about 100 Years of Girl Guides.  I’m watching it and I can safely say hindsight is a wonderful thing.  There were times when I absolutely hated it but I think I got more out of it in the long run and would love to go back.  However between one thing and another I can’t really – long story but there you go.

I joined the Lambay pack Brownies when I was 6 (1981 / 82) and I stayed with it through to Girl Guides and went on to become a young leader.  However school got in the way and there endeth my guiding career.   Some of my fondest memories were of weekends away – the best was when we went to Interlaken in Switzerland and we got to visit Our Chalet.  It was the year of the Italian World Cup – Italia ’90, this put an end to any planned trip into Italy due to the amount of people going there the leaders figured we’d be better off staying where we were.  We had so much fun and my most vivid memories were of dancing out on the drive way with basins on our heads ’cause the hail stones were absolutely HUGE!  and the other huge things were the Toblerones – yum!  I’ve often want to go back and some day I will.

Yes I have to say looking back it was fun – ok maybe I didn’t appreciate the mandatory fun but that came under the banner of all inclusive 😉

I know niece-y is only one but I hope it’s something that my sister gets her involved in as it really will server her well in her future.

Have to go as I’m being shredded by a cat 😦

Leisurely Saturday

I’ve surfaced and gone for my morning walk – it’s not long 20 to 25 minutes – it blows out the cobwebs and allows me some me time to think over things that need to be done or things I want to get done. Anyway I’ve done that and I’m now finished breakfast and I’m about to go off shopping.
I’m going to Blanchardstown SC to do my food shop but I think there will be one or two other stops in various places down there. The one looming largest in my mind is the Pet Store – we have a moggy who seems to have taken to randomly piddling in places. There is a vet visit in her future but I’m not 100% that it’s just naughtiness and bad habits – who knows what they get up to when we’re at work!! Once the cat is attended to shopping wise I think it will be browsing time. I also need a pair of shoes for a wedding and I’m having no luck as I’m a bit picky and can’t really handle high heels but I do need something with a ‘bit’ of a heel – poo!
The other day somebody some where mentioned that they were going to watch the BBC Pride & Prejudice and to be honest it sounds like a fantastic idea. So once shopping is done I’m going to come home put my feet up and indulge in Jane Austen – Ah Bliss!
So it’s now time to go!

Drive By Posting

I shouldn’t do this but I’m going to anyway.

First off let me explain – I’m a cheap date = you only have to wave a cork under my nose and I’m drunk so a glass of wine later and I’m well tiddled.  Therefore posting things is not advised for 2 reasons 1. my typing is horrendously bad and it takes a long time to get the spellings right and 2. I find it difficult to think.  So if this is gibberish – sorry.

I’m a mad China Miéville fan so here is a link to interview-y type things.  I haven’t listened /watched all of it so in a way this is also a link for me.

The second thing I want to mention is I have a big huge pile of To Be Read books – sometimes it’s like being a child in a sweetshop and trying to decide what to read next is a torment.  However this evening I bought a book that I really can’t wait to start.  I don’t think I’ve had one of those in a long while.  It’s Trains And Buttered Toast by John Betjemin.  I have never read anything by him (that I’m aware of) but I heard him read something on a television programme and thought that it sounded absolutely wonderful so decided must look him up.

Ok concentration has slipped away so I’m going to go but for this completely collapses into rambling rubbish.

One Last Thing!

Pádraig – Happy Anniversary!  5 years and still going strong.

Love you LOADS!  – maybe I should save that for sobriety ’cause now it just comes across as the drunk telling everybody I love you man!

Seriously though – we’ve have a great 5 years and some brilliants laughs and adventures. Time for some anniversary cuddles  🙂

The Nation’s Favourite Poems

Himself picked up the double CD of “The Nation’s Favourite Poems” and we are sitting here deciding which poem to listen to next. I have a definite softness for William Butler Yeats, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Dylan Thomas.
There really is something lyrical about the rhythm of spoken poetry. Maybe it’s a good job I’m not in bed ’cause this stuff would just send me straight to sleep. I reckon that is a throw back to being read to in bed. These days the radio, the telly or himself reading to me will have me out cold in no time.
I’d better go and look after the kitchen but I have a feeling that tonights sleep will have a Dylan Thomas soundtrack – Under Milkwood I think.
