Mothers Day ’09

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a raging headache. However I had told Mam that I would go with her to the shops so up and out we went. She is making wedding invites for my cousin so we were out looking at various colours for various types of paper. I think she will have her work cut out for her as she couldn’t find the exact stuff she was looking for. Mind you if I know Mam she will fiddle around and come up with something that will turn out to absolutely perfect.
Anyway we’re back from the shops and she is after heading home as my sister & niece are going out to their (mam & dad) house for dinner. My word but the niece fondly called the fairy is now sitting up by herself. Himself yesterday was asking what age are they (babies) when they get hair? She does look a little scarce but it’s thick enough on top and the colour is darkening so at least you can see hair – up ’til now she was really fair and you couldn’t see it from a distance. Can you tell I’m absolutely besotted with her? When I find my wire for the ‘phone I’ll post a picture of her from yesterday.
As for me and the rest of the day? Well I think I’m going to spend most of it stretched out on the sofa. I did loads of work around the house yesterday and between that and the aforementioned headache I don’t see my self doing anything other the watching Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. I think crochet might just aggravate my poor head.
Mind you I’ll have to get dinner started sometime later – himself has had to work today so I get peace & quiet 🙂 Normally we’d go out and have adventures but I’m not really up to it so now I don’t have to be a spoil sport.
Better go as they’ve just kidnapped the girls!

Digging out the sticks

Last year my MIL was in hospital and I thought it would be nice if I made her a blanket and it would have been if I’d actually done it.  OK to be precise I did start the blanket and then got a bit cheesed off doing it and besides she was out of hospital and doing fine without the blanket.  I’ve been tripping over this bag for the best part of a year and the couple of rows have been taunting me so I decided to take it into the living room and get stuck in while I’m watching telly.  Me & crochet + telly = watching wool and listening to voices from corner of the room.  If you are wondering what kind of blanket I am – I want to say making but that makes it sound like I know what I’m doing.  So this is the stitch that I’m experimenting with – if it’s successfull then I was making it but up until then it will remain experiment.

Weight Watchers

Myself and my mother went back last week.  I weighed in 2st 2.5lbs above my goal weight.  I can confirm that the majority of that is chocolate and for the most part I enjoyed every last mouthful.  Anyway after a week of pointing (I can almost do this in my sleep) and tracking (this I can’t do in my sleep and rarely did in my waking hours) we went back for our second weigh in – actually I like to think of it as our first.  Anyway I was 3lbs down!  and so was my mother – so I have to say between us we are fantastic.  I doubt I’ll have another week like that but I’ll be happy with anything from .5lb on.  So I have my goals planned out.  I want to be half a stone down by Easter and hopefully I won’t do too much damage at Eastercon.  I want to be a stone down by our holiday to Paris in June and I want to be free or within screaming distance of goal for my cousins wedding in August.  It’s not asking for a lot but there’s a lot to be done in order to attain it.  I will get there I know that so it’s back to tracking tomorrow morning.

Ooops!

This is the post were The Vintage Kitten will kill me hence the Ooops!  When I last posted we were off to my sisters for dinner as it was my mothers 60th.  For starters we had scallops on a bed of parsnip (i think) with a mixed leaf salad and here it is: Starters It was absolutely gorgeous. For our main course we had baby potatoes with thyme and chicken breast stuffed with spinach & goats cheese covered in a chorizo sauce. It was fantastic! The dessert was supposed to be birthday cake but somebody forgot to collect it from the bakers (don’t ask!) so we had profitta rolls. At this point I remembered that I was supposed to take photos – palm/forehead – doh! So apologies but the food was just to good and besides my pictures wouldn’t have done it much justice.

On the other hand my BUNNIES! arrived let me introduce to my little ladies.
Ava & Little Rosie:
Ava & Rosie

This is Little Rosie:Little Rosie
I plan to have her on my locker to keep an eye on me

This is Ava:
Ava
I only have this one on loan as I will give it to my niece when she is a bit older. Her name is Aoibhe but pronounced Ava.

I have to admit I’m absolutely enchanted and smitten by them both – I might even be naughty and keep both! Oh decisions decisions.
I must say a huge Thank You to The Vintage Magpie for making these little ladies you and they have made me very happy!

Dinner

Last Friday was my mothers 60th Birthday and tonight we’re all having dinner out in my sisters new house. I have to admit I’m looking forward to it.  Her boyfriend (sisters) is going to be doing the cooking and rumour has it that he is rather good at it too.  I promise I’ll take pics and post them.

Back In Action

Sorry for the disappearance.  It seems that February has been an eventful saga.  The month started out with himself not feeling well and on his second visit to the doctors he was sent into hospital and there he stayed for several days.  It seems to be his appendix but they didn’t take it out as he also has an appendicial mass (big infection) so they were trying to clear that before they go in.  So he was packed off home again with painkillers and antibiotics.  Hot on the heels of this was an event he was organising in work.  He works for a book shop so he had people in for a signing – actually talk about starting at the top – well he had Neil Gaiman in with Amanda Palmer.  The place was packed!  I think all in all it was a good event although there were wrinkles that need to be ironed out at least next time it will be smaller and folk won’t be as panic stricken as they seemed this time.  Oh yes I also forgot to mention we got tickets to see Coraline 3D.  That was fun – in the end 3D hurts my eyes a little and I think the film for me lacked that small element of menace.  However it is certainly something I’d watch again (non 3D).

The day we went to the cinema we also dropped in to the Cath Kidston shop.  OMG! I think I died and went to heaven.  It really was one of those shops were you’d just love to have the money that said “I’ll have one of everything please!”  I eventually emerged with a laundry bag, a little purse and an oilcloth bag.  I wanted to get the bag and everything else was a bonus.

So the Shop & cinema was on Sunday, the signing was on Tuesday so it was busy, busy!  On Thursday himself got an email from Nicky in The Vintage Magpie to let him know that the bunnies he bought for me (I don’t have a credit card so I had to use him)  would be sent out in the post on Monday.  Well I was a cross between a pin ball and a basket ball – bouncing around all over the place and wittering Bunnies!  to myself.  Yes I’m really looking forward to them.

Speaking of wittering I’ve been twittering like crazy. This is me: mswalsh.  Like I said it really is me just wittering – nothing profound I’m just aiming for slightly coherent.  After that I’m happy.

I think I’ll leave it there.  I still have one or two other things but I’ll mention them later – tonight/tomorrow.

Bye for now.

Brief Encounter

Brief Encounter in showing in the cinema as part of the Jameson International Film Festival and I’m awfully tempted to take a half day to go and see it.

Look at what I bought

Well when I say I bought – I persuaded himself to make the actual purchases as I don’t have a credit card or paypal account.

http://www.thevintagemagpie.co.uk/shop.html

If you scroll down the page you will spot the first bunny and she is Ava.  I have a niece call Aoibhe and we are pronouncing it ava so when she is old enough I might consider passing the bunny along to her or I might just keep her as she’s so cute.  However if you scroll a little further you will see the bunny that is destined for my bedside locker and that is little Rosie – isn’t she adorable?  I can’t wait to get my hands on these little treasures.

Anyway enough of my avarice I have to go and cook dinner.

A Busy Sunday

In an effort to avoid having to drive we went into town to a flea market – (or should that be fleamarket?)  Anyway we went off early as the market opened at 11am and we had no idea where it was being held.  Well we had a general idea but once we hit the boundaries of general we were a little lost.  We found the market and started to spend.  I bought a white and red crocheted shawl (I know I could but doubt I ever will make one),  a floral blouse and a pair of fingerless gloves.  I’m particularly pleased with the gloves as I’m not fond of wool and these are almost a fleece type fabric.  I’ll post a photo or two once I figure out where I’ve put the camera – yes one more victim of “I just put it down”.  Himself bought two RiverCottage  DVDs and a CD of somebody – I can’t remember.

Once we were finished in the market we wandered off to my sisters apartment and we got to mind my niece while Kay got ready to go out.  Once she was ready she fed Aoibhe and himself told us we were cruel to be laughing at the poor child – but she was making faces and funny faces at that.  She has 2 bottom teeth and she was rubbing her lip over them.  Anyway after that she fairly flaked out so we bundled her into her pram and off we all went to the museum for a wander around.  It was the first time that the sister had been there and although we did have to long there at least now she knows what’s there for the next time.

The only draw back to today is that our feet are killing us – him ’cause he was breaking in new boots and me ’cause I walked a lot.  So home and dinner.  Feet up to watch Larkrise – my husband almost referred to me as a spinster as I like the two spinsters in the episode have no children.  Of course then sense kicked in when I reminded him that we were married and therefore couldn’t be a spinster.  The cheek of him!!  Anyway I’m just out of my bath and we’re listening to Mike Oldfield on YouTube.

It’s a nice way to wind down the weekend and build up to work tomorrow.

Brain Melt

I’ve been subscribing to a few blogs lately and the RSS feed gives me the last 25 posts.  This is fantastic and had LOADS of lovely pictures so I’m having a great time looking at the with awe and envy.  There was one picture I saw that had a set of shelves in them just beneath a window and they were white.  They almost looked like they were for a childrens room.  Do you think I can remember where it was I spotted this picture?  My poor brain is melting and all I want to do is show himself the picture as I reckon something similar would be nice next to the dresser.  It would be somewhere for the cookery and craft books to go.

I think I’ll have to go to bed as my brain is now refusing to function.
