Grumbles

I’ve started a cross-stitch project even though I’m not finished with the snowflake throw 😦 I was given the kit a while ago and it’s been asked after on a number of occasions so I’ve decided to do it and get it over with. Sometimes I get the impression that I might have to give it back once it’s completed – however I don’t know we’ll just have to wait and see. My major grumble is the fact that joy has been taken out of it – the sooner it’s done the better.
Anyway I know I’m saying the joy is gone but probably an exaggeration ’cause when I’m doing it I know I’ll enjoy it. Hohum!!
Anyway time to finish sorting out the threads – sorry to be grumbly!

A Taste Of Your Life

I’ve watched this programme and I’ve often wondered what would mine be.

While the programme seems to have dishes for me it’s single things –

Fry’s Chocolate Cream and After Eights remind me of my Granddad on my fathers side and Apple Tart, a fry for your tea and most importantly Christmas Pudding remind me of Nannan (grandmother on dads side)

Bourbon biscuits remind me of my other Granddad on my mothers side and egg in a cup makes me think of Nanny (mothers mother)

What reminds me of my parents is a little more difficult.  It’s grapes for Dad.  He’d always get grapes when we went shopping and would sit chomping on them for the evening and we of course would try to help ourselves.   When it comes to Mam it gets very general.  It’s mainly baking especially boiled fruit cake.  I think it’s the licking the bowl and the putting everything together.  I also associate Christmas Pudding with Mam to but not in a good way.  I did breadcrumbs every Christmas but I always thought it was for the stuffing not realising that it would be a lot of stuffing!  I never knew that was what went into the pudding – I was devastated.  Mind you it didn’t put me off and I love it.

On a minor subcategory of Christmas Pudding.  Nannan always made it.  Granddad loved it fried & my mother told me what was in it.

Anyway time to go but just one quick question:

What would be A Taste Of Your Life?

Nan-nan

I have just had a missing week.  On Monday we got a call to say that my grandmother had fallen during the night – at that time it really could have gone one way or another but we all decided best to travel just to be on the safe side.  We saw her on the Monday night and decided to call in the next day and see how things were and if she was the same then we’d head home as we both had work on the Wednesday.  No, she had deteriorated over night so there was no going anywhere.  Slowly her breathing became shallower and shallower and with everybody around her she died at 15.35.

Unfortunately we counted the days wrong and thought that she would be buried on Thursday and we’d travel home on the Friday but a day was sneaked in and so she wasn’t buried until Friday -the day we had to travel home – ’cause himself was due to work on the Saturday (today).

Nan nan came home on the Wednesday and was laid out until Thursday and taken to the church that evening.  So for most of Wednesday & Thursday we were at a lose end – I didn’t particularly want to be there too much so we went off driving.  I’ve had the car since January ’08 and I think the amount of driving done in it since then equals the amount of driving done in the past week.  So I’m trying to see that as the silver lining for what really could have been the week from hell.

I don’t know – I still can’t believe that she has finally gone.  That sounds a little bit weird but in a way Nan nan has been gone a while – she had dementia for a few years and in a way was no longer herself (well to me anyway).  Now unfortunately her physical presence is gone.  I am happy that I didn’t see her in the coffin.  I saw her in her hospital bed and I saw her laid out in her bed.  There was a coffin in the hearse and then it was brought in and brought back out and in a way they weren’t associated with Nan nan.

During the Mass I did the first reading and I managed to get through it so I’m pleased with that.  Himself was one of the coffin carriers and he did a wonderful job – he always has a good shoulder.

So it’s Saturday mourning and I’m at home and himself  is at work and life seems to be continuing on as if last week never happened.  Unfortunately it did – I’m heartbroken but I have 30 odd years of brilliant memories.

Dublins First Vintage Fair

And I can’t go!!! Boo!!!!

I came across this & this and reading through it I though that looked good it’s a pity we’ve missed it.  I was reading it out aloud and himself thought it sounded good too.  That means we keep an eye out for the next time it’s on.  Hold on I’ve been reading it all wrong it’s on tomorrow – therefore we can’t go as he is still to sore after his operation and his parents are coming out to visit.  Well I’m blowing raspberries at my tomorrow.  On the other hand I have Madeira cake and I bought I bought a pack of my favourite biccies – fruit shortcake – actually they are lidl ones so I think they’re called fruit shorties.

I regretted missing the fair when I thought it had already been on but now I sorely regret missing it as I will be doing so in real time 😦

On a brighter note I excavated my desk (some how it now has different junk on it)  and I came across one or two books that I had put aside to be read and they eventually disappeared in amongst the ‘stuff’  so after the quick run around on the house tomorrow I’ll be free to relax and read to my hearts content.

Mothers Day ’09

I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a raging headache. However I had told Mam that I would go with her to the shops so up and out we went. She is making wedding invites for my cousin so we were out looking at various colours for various types of paper. I think she will have her work cut out for her as she couldn’t find the exact stuff she was looking for. Mind you if I know Mam she will fiddle around and come up with something that will turn out to absolutely perfect.
Anyway we’re back from the shops and she is after heading home as my sister & niece are going out to their (mam & dad) house for dinner. My word but the niece fondly called the fairy is now sitting up by herself. Himself yesterday was asking what age are they (babies) when they get hair? She does look a little scarce but it’s thick enough on top and the colour is darkening so at least you can see hair – up ’til now she was really fair and you couldn’t see it from a distance. Can you tell I’m absolutely besotted with her? When I find my wire for the ‘phone I’ll post a picture of her from yesterday.
As for me and the rest of the day? Well I think I’m going to spend most of it stretched out on the sofa. I did loads of work around the house yesterday and between that and the aforementioned headache I don’t see my self doing anything other the watching Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. I think crochet might just aggravate my poor head.
Mind you I’ll have to get dinner started sometime later – himself has had to work today so I get peace & quiet 🙂 Normally we’d go out and have adventures but I’m not really up to it so now I don’t have to be a spoil sport.
Better go as they’ve just kidnapped the girls!

Ooops!

This is the post were The Vintage Kitten will kill me hence the Ooops!  When I last posted we were off to my sisters for dinner as it was my mothers 60th.  For starters we had scallops on a bed of parsnip (i think) with a mixed leaf salad and here it is: Starters It was absolutely gorgeous. For our main course we had baby potatoes with thyme and chicken breast stuffed with spinach & goats cheese covered in a chorizo sauce. It was fantastic! The dessert was supposed to be birthday cake but somebody forgot to collect it from the bakers (don’t ask!) so we had profitta rolls. At this point I remembered that I was supposed to take photos – palm/forehead – doh! So apologies but the food was just to good and besides my pictures wouldn’t have done it much justice.

On the other hand my BUNNIES! arrived let me introduce to my little ladies.
Ava & Little Rosie:
Ava & Rosie

This is Little Rosie:Little Rosie
I plan to have her on my locker to keep an eye on me

This is Ava:
Ava
I only have this one on loan as I will give it to my niece when she is a bit older. Her name is Aoibhe but pronounced Ava.

I have to admit I’m absolutely enchanted and smitten by them both – I might even be naughty and keep both! Oh decisions decisions.
I must say a huge Thank You to The Vintage Magpie for making these little ladies you and they have made me very happy!

Dinner

Last Friday was my mothers 60th Birthday and tonight we’re all having dinner out in my sisters new house. I have to admit I’m looking forward to it.  Her boyfriend (sisters) is going to be doing the cooking and rumour has it that he is rather good at it too.  I promise I’ll take pics and post them.
