Weather

Hello there!  Long time no post…

I’m fascinated by weather.  I tend to keep an eye on it if we’re ever going away and the difference between predicted and observed is great – how wrong or right did they get it?

So what makes me smile?  The internet!
Previously the weather was simply something that was on after the evening news and a 5-7 day forecast on Countryfile.

These days there are websites such as :
Met Éireann
Weather Channel
Irish Weather Online (Facebook Link but excellent)
A Norwegian site: www.yr.no
are just a few samples

However my latest find is Earth Wind Map  I could watch this for hours!

So yes Weather Forecasts make me smile (although I suspect the Maths involved would make me cry!)

Delayed Gratification

I love love love miserable weather. I think in some places this puts me in the odd category but I don’t mind. So unfortunately for me I am still waiting. I think we would have been happy to have temperatures like this during the summer!
Today it’s a bit windy and the leaves are swirling and dancing. The entrance into the building is full of leaves – I was sorely tempted to stick around andnkick leaves for the afternoon.
So while I am still waiting for season appropriate weather I am holding off on having a Chai Latte. There is something about that frothy, sweet & spicey tea that brings winter to mind (my mind) – cold noses and cold fingers.
This morning I was going to indulge but it wouldn’t be the same. Yes it would be lovely – it’s lovely any time of year but it’s cosy at the cold time of year.

So like the child in the room alone with the sweets I have to pass the coffee shop every morning – will I have the chai latte now or will I wait for a more satisfying cup when the weather turns? Ok I’m an adult and can have both but somehow I know it wouldn’t be the same.

Go Go Gadget Getter!

Why oh Why can’t I just let a gadget be released without having to get it?  I bought an iPad with it first came out and I have to admit that I absolutely love it! – I don’t have internet access in work so it’s handy to have hiding away in the handbag 🙂 So with my trusty iPad in tow I was in HMV yesterday to buy a proper cover – I got one when I took delivery of the baby but never got around to getting a proper one.  Anyway I spotted a poster saying ask about the 3DS and they will give you a demonstration (woohoo) – so on to my adventures with Nintendos 🙂

When I was little (- I’d like to say younger but as we’re talking decades I’ll plump for little) a friend from around the corner had Donkey Kong  and I loved it!   However when Santa decided to get me DK I was almost played out so I robbed my sisters Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Game & WatchMario Bros. Game & Watch
So I played away for many a day and when I moved out I rediscovered both – teehee – you really can lose yourself in those games!  However when I say rediscovered it does mean they were put away for a few years 😦  I wasn’t taken by subsequent game consoles after all we had computers – mind you we weren’t totally game orientated either so I don’t know what it was that made me get a DSLite! – at the time the colours were limited so I got myself a lovely black one.
Black DSLite Of course they then released a few in different colours Colours Colours Colours! but I have one so I couldn’t really go out and get a different coloured one – could I?  Well I am a bit good and didn’t  – so back to yesterday and a 3DS – what to do???  they will only have them in shiny blue or ‘cosmos black’ but I can get a discount if I trade in my (or his DSL) – eek!  my usual behaviour  would see me running in tomorrow with my money for a deposit and I’d have a new toy!  but no!!!  I’m going to wait – teehee!  I love the colour red and they have previously released a red DSL so what are the chances of a red 3DS? Well google is my friend and I’m going to hold onto my cash until I see these on the shelves:
My Next Purchase
Amn’t I good? For once I’m not being impulsive – although I’ve never regretted being so!
In the mean time I’m just going to have to play with all of my other gadgets – or maybe I might just get a move on with my neglected mountains of wool & projects.

Actually I have a camera I still haven’t gotten to grips with!!!!!

Mornings

It’s at this time of the year you really can see the seasons change – for the most part over the year they simply slide into one another but not at the moment – it’s almost like one day you are coming home in broad daylight and the next day the sun is setting – a week later and it’s dark. I have to admit I love it – the lengthening and shortening of the days. I was talking to a friend recently and who is originally from Zimbabwe and she was telling me that when they were being taught in school about the shorter days in winter and longer in summer it meant nothing to them – it made no sense as their days stayed the same more or less all year – it was only when she came here that she realised what the teachers were on about.
This morning I woke up and it was pitch dark – no more morning walks (even though there weren’t too many in the first place – well not this year) – and it was the first morning that I was actually aware of the darkness. As I type the sky is brightening, some of the clouds are pink and there are trails from the planes. Soon this won’t be happening for at least another hour and then winter will have set in – going to and returning from work in darkness.
Speaking of work – must dash!

Snow

If there is one thing that I love it’s SNOW!!  I just noticed that somebody mentioned they had snow and I thought jealously nice for them!  I glanced at the window and realised we had snow too!  I just bounced up and down the hallway and ran out into it.  I’ve been promised we can both go out for a little while after QI but for now here is my Tilly (the car) in the snow:

Lists

I am going to have to dig out a notebook and start making lists.

I was in a shop this evening and I saw three things I wanted to get but I know in my heart and soul that I will have forgotten them by next week.  Ok so they were games for my DS and I’d get more enjoyment if I bought them one by one but at least with the notebook I’d remember.

On a side note I got an email from my mother with photos of my niece – she really is just a little doll.  I might have mentioned it in places but she really is the cutest thing and is growing out of her Winston Churchill phase. – I’m bold – sorry!

Seasons

I don’t know if it is just because I was slightly more awake this morning and noticed or if this is the first day but it was still dark this morning when I got up.

I am a Winter person but I do start to get that feeling when I see Autumn setting in.  Spring with all of its new growth doesn’t do as much for me and Summer – well if we go away then it’s a welcome change but at home it’s pretty much the same – wet but slightly warmer.

Actually that was something I noticed about our holiday to Paris – I’d move there at the drop of a hat but I think I’d miss the cool weather – in saying that I don’t know what Parisian Winter weather is like.  I know it’s odd but I like the miserable and cold weather.  I’m not sure if it’s the feeling of being safe and cosy indoors while nature is venting itself or what.

Ok it seems that I’m not that much awake as my head is still full of groggy thinking – I’d better go and freshen up before work.

Rain

I love it!  I love being out in it (especially if I’m prepared for it) but most of all I love the sound of it.  The past two mornings have found me waking to the sound and sight of rain.

So for my enjoyment:

Jigsaws

This really is just a reminder for myself – to make sure my desk is fully cleared so that I can put out my jigsaw board – I have bought several but since we got the kittens (who are now almost 2) but I don’t think I’ve made any.  No I tell a lie – I did finish the one I had on the go when they arrived.  It was slow going because of:
I can help

and

pip2

It tends to bring your jigsaw career to a careering halt.

I Love Broadband

Our broadband went last Wednesday so we had not internets.  Well until I remembered that my little baby, the iBook had dial up on it!  Ok how did we ever survive with dial up?  I know that the pages were a lot more basic and didn’t have as much to load up but there were times when I was convinced that it was broken!  There are a few blogs that I read and they can be photo heavy and take a while to load with a high-speed connection so the last few days I’ve been reading the blogs but it’s only now that I get to see the pictures that go with the stories.

On the other hand I realised that we tend to spend a lot of time on the computers and the week off so to speak was a bit of a relief.  It’s like me on a Friday – I tend to turn my mobile off.  Generally I don’t turn my phone off as that would mean finding it and all that but I do it on a Friday – my way of welcoming in the weekend and making sure that nobody rings me on Saturday morning.  Ha ha when you think of it – nobody would ring your landline too early as that would wake the whole household but they would blithely ring you mobile.  Anyway I’m wandering now – yes a few days off did us no harm but when it came back on Monday (for my Birthday and because I’d just arranged for an engineer to come out) I just couldn’t wait to get home after work just to see how the world functions without me.  Apparently just fine it seems but I’m glad to be back.
