Sunny Sunday Breakfast

In the mornings we have sunshine on our veranda but come the afternoon the sun is out in the back garden.

So this morning I had my breakfast out doors.  Yes the weather has been that good over the last few days.

Armed with my iPhone I took a photo but can’t decide which app – the Instagram or Flickr?

Instagram

or

Whichever one you like let me reassure you it was all really delicious & relaxing.

Polka Dot Love

This evening I’ve added to my polka dot foot wear.  Just looking at them makes me feel giddy and child like but I just love them!  I also picked up some floral footwear so a picture of that in a day or two.

Ok big bounding puppy time but I’m so pleased with myself and what I managed to do.  To here’s my ta-da! moment:

Now I’m guessing there’s a fair few of you out there that can do this but I only found out about it last week and my mind has been blown!  I can see myself loosing many many hours fixing up old family photos.

The lady in the photo is my grandaunt but I’m not 100% as I’ve a choice of 2 so I’ll have to ring my mam and ask her.  But yes, I’m sooo pleased with myself.

If you see this more than once I do apologise but it’s going to be cross posted EVERYWHERE 🙂

Heston Blementhal’s Perfect Christmas

I’m not treading a fine line on is it too early to mention Christmas?  For me it’s never too early 🙂

I saw this a few years ago and there was another one made subsequently but for me this is the one to watch – it’s pure magic!

Heston’s Perfect Christmas

I’ve been trying to embed it but am not having any luck so please click the link and start to feel the spirit of Christmas even if you don’t tell anybody 😉

Yesterday Was A Good Day

I have to admit that I wasn’t holding out much hope for yesterday as it was a Monday.  All you really want to do is just get through it and move on with the week.  However when MB got into work she had a date for her surgery (for carpal tunnel) and it was the same day that was mooted for himself – eek!  Anyway I got on the ‘phone and gave himself a bell – get the date confirmed!!!  So he did (kindda) it will be confirmed today but it is going to be next week – I’m thrilled.  Ha Ha it seems I get to read my magazine after all! – I’d bought Country Living to read while waiting around the hospital last week but of course that was cancelled so didn’t get to read it – roll on next week for some lovely bliss.

Anyway back to yesterday – Himself has finally finished writing his book – ok he still has a bit more work to do – indexing, bibliography, etc but the hard research & conclusion is over and done with.  He is sooo relieved to have it done and I’m really really proud of him!  So we’re off out for dinner sometime over the next week just to celebrate book & surgery.  In the mean time I’m trying to think of something I can get himself to say well done – and unfortunately my head is drawing a blank.

Well I can’t stay here any longer –  I’ve to go to work 😦

BBC Radio 4

or BBC radio 7 – I love them!

However the best time to listen to them is just before going to sleep.

There is nothing more relaxing than hearing a voice talking in the background.  Please note it’s hearing a voice not necessarily listening to it – that requires too much concentration and would only keep me awake – that is why the choice of programme is very important.

Tonight I don’t think it will be BBC7 as there is some comedy on and I might be inclined to listen so I think it’s going to be “The World Tonight”, a bit of the “Book at Bedtime” and if I am still awake it’s “With Great Pleasure” – mind you if I’m still awake by B@B there must be something wrong.

Anyway I’ve to go and settle in for a nights listening – I’d better not forget to set the timer – last time I’d done that I was listening to Classic FM and I woke to the sound of whispering in the room – I got such a fright I couldn’t go back to sleep which totally defeated the point of putting on some lovely relaxing music to fall asleep to 🙂

Good Night!

Go Go Gadget Getter!

Why oh Why can’t I just let a gadget be released without having to get it?  I bought an iPad with it first came out and I have to admit that I absolutely love it! – I don’t have internet access in work so it’s handy to have hiding away in the handbag 🙂 So with my trusty iPad in tow I was in HMV yesterday to buy a proper cover – I got one when I took delivery of the baby but never got around to getting a proper one.  Anyway I spotted a poster saying ask about the 3DS and they will give you a demonstration (woohoo) – so on to my adventures with Nintendos 🙂

When I was little (- I’d like to say younger but as we’re talking decades I’ll plump for little) a friend from around the corner had Donkey Kong  and I loved it!   However when Santa decided to get me DK I was almost played out so I robbed my sisters Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Game & WatchMario Bros. Game & Watch
So I played away for many a day and when I moved out I rediscovered both – teehee – you really can lose yourself in those games!  However when I say rediscovered it does mean they were put away for a few years 😦  I wasn’t taken by subsequent game consoles after all we had computers – mind you we weren’t totally game orientated either so I don’t know what it was that made me get a DSLite! – at the time the colours were limited so I got myself a lovely black one.
Black DSLite Of course they then released a few in different colours Colours Colours Colours! but I have one so I couldn’t really go out and get a different coloured one – could I?  Well I am a bit good and didn’t  – so back to yesterday and a 3DS – what to do???  they will only have them in shiny blue or ‘cosmos black’ but I can get a discount if I trade in my (or his DSL) – eek!  my usual behaviour  would see me running in tomorrow with my money for a deposit and I’d have a new toy!  but no!!!  I’m going to wait – teehee!  I love the colour red and they have previously released a red DSL so what are the chances of a red 3DS? Well google is my friend and I’m going to hold onto my cash until I see these on the shelves:
My Next Purchase
Amn’t I good? For once I’m not being impulsive – although I’ve never regretted being so!
In the mean time I’m just going to have to play with all of my other gadgets – or maybe I might just get a move on with my neglected mountains of wool & projects.

Actually I have a camera I still haven’t gotten to grips with!!!!!

Daily Treat

I love my morning break!

There are two decisions to be made – will I have 1 or 2 slices of toast? and what will I read?

I know I could go up to the staff canteen but there are times with the noise levels are unbelievable and there are othertimes when you don’t have a choice about who sits with you or who you sit with. This 20minute (30 if I’m honest) break out into my own little world is so peaceful that it is worth the the extra few cent.

So along comes 11am and I toddle off for my tea and toast. The routine is usually the same – hi to the regulars and then its sitting down – have a quick look at twitter and when the tray arrives with my goodies it’s away with the tech – marmalade and iPads are not a good mix! and it’s out with the book or magazine.

There are no interruptions so it is simply wonderful to lose yourself for that short while in the middle of a busy working day.

The Wonders Of Modern Life

Last night we were settle down after dinner – Country File was over and we were waiting for The X-Factor when the lights flickered. We thought it was a bulb about to go had a quick look around but couldn’t figure which one was it, when everything went dark. Well Grumble!! Luckily it was still a little but bright out but only just – it was 7.15. So a quick run around to find the torch while himself was lighting the candles on the mantle piece.
Once that was done it was a case of so what now? I went outside so I could hear all of the house alarms a bit better and the thing that struck me most was the sound of excited children – we have a lot of young children in our area and this is the first major evening outage we’ve had. Anyway along comes the neighbour from upstairs so he rushes in to check on stuff and we’re chatting to the girlfriend – the big joke is if the electricity doesn’t come back soon we’re going to have to chat and we’ve been putting that off for years!
Back inside I grab my transistor radio – the one I got all those years ago ’cause we were always getting power cuts when I was littler. It was just a pity that there wasn’t anything entertaining on BBC radio 4 – only current events etc. I suppose we could have retuned it but we decided to go for a walk ’cause it was really dark 🙂 It’s amazing how no street lighting changes you whole surroundings – cars with their dims on are still blindingly bright and all of a sudden you notice there are loads of cars! However we were more interested in looking in at peoples candles – it was almost like Christmas looking in at the lights. We didn’t stay out for too long as the little bit of bright that had been outside had vanished.
When we got home it was out with the torches to see where had we put the cooker kettle!! You see we could have coffee ’cause we had the happy combo of gas cooker & cooker top kettle! A few years ago a friend in work said she didn’t have an electric kettle but a cooker kettle and I thought the idea was fascinating so I got one too for events like last night. So coffee is ready what else is there to do? we could watch a DVD ’cause the laptop still had battery power – Internet if only I could find the mobile broadband thingy (which I did this morning) or better yet we could continue watching House! er no on the House suggestion – it is on my hard drive and that needs to be plugged in. It would seem that there is so much you could almost do but this electricity lark always pipped us at the post. In the end we ended up playing board games well the Agatha Christie one ’cause it’s the only one I stand a chance of winning! What a pity neither of us plays cards – maybe it’s something to look into. I almost suggested sleep at one ridiculously early point in time but I knew I’d be wide awake again by 2am so we hit the hay and watched DVDs on the laptop – to be precise we were watching High Life with Alan Cummings, Forbes Mason & Siobhan Redmond – hadn’t seen it in ages so it was very funny. After that I went to sleep – only to have the telly come back on along with a load of lights at 11.45. That sounds like I got up to knock it all off – erm no I rolled over went “oh lights” and promptly fell back to sleep.
So here I am with all of faculties / utilities back and with some quick thinking from somebody else on a forum I’ve put the immersion on ’cause the clock for the heating is out by just over 4 hours and there would have been no hot water! However it should be ready & I can also use my hair drier – very important these days.

Just an after thought if this had gone on for a while there is no way to heat the house – this is an estate without chimneys so lighting a fire is out of the question – I think this is something we’re going to have to give serious thought to!
